What is "The Book Director?"
The Book Director is my company, whose mission is to help write, publish, and sell their books. Whether you’ve always wanted to write a book but don’t know where to start, or if you’ve written a lot of books, but have never had luck selling them, The Book Director is here to help.
Okay, then who is The Book Director?
My name is Michael W. Griffith, but most of my friends call me Mike. I write thriller/suspense novels, although I seem to have trouble sticking strictly to my genre.
I ran my own highly successful financial company for more than twenty years. A potentially life-threatening case of melanoma (skin cancer—coast is clear) helped me realign my priorities to follow my lifelong dream of being a writer.
On a personal note, I'm a happily married father of four, grandfather of another four, and proud owner of Deacon, an English-Cream Golden Retriever.
Then why are you “book directing” instead of writing?
I write every day, and will for the rest of my life. They say writers write because they’re greedy and want to live as many lives as they possibly can. That's me. I love to read and write, and both are a top priority for me.
One way or another, I've coached and mentored people most of my life. I enjoy it. And I miss it. Enough so that, as I've informally helped a number of writers over the past several years, it became clear that I want to help others on a regular basis.
There's also a large void in the marketplace for affordable, high-quality, customized advice for self-published authors. I've heard it from authors. You can see it in their books. Poor writing, poor structure, bad covers, ill-conceived launch plans, no writer platform. They're making a good effort, but they need help. My years of business experience and love for writing position me uniquely in the market to provide solutions self-published authors need.
I need the help, but I can’t afford thousands of dollars to publish my book!
I’ve seen coaching and publishing services quote figures between $5,000 and $50,000 to publish a book! I’ve even heard (and read) that an author should save whatever amount before trying to publish. This is completely backwards and wrong!
An experienced project manager—and publishing a book is just a large, complex project—will first establish the budget for the project, and then decide how to accomplish the project objectives with the money available. To say, "Sorry, you just don't have enough money to publish," is unacceptable! It's not the way this is supposed to work. Whether your budget is $0 or thousands of dollars, there is a way to effectively publish your book.
But I don’t want to get hooked into a long-term contract…
I don’t offer long-term, inch-thick contracts prepared by rooms full of lawyers, and no payment plans that seem to never end. The Book Director is here to help you with the parts of writing, publishing, and selling your book where you want and need help. We'll of course provide you with enough documentation to protect your work and your rights, but will never tie you into doing business with The Book Director. My business strategy has always been to do such good work, to provide so great a value, that you'll never want to leave.
